How Pakistan Prize Bond Scheme Works
Prize bonds offer an easy, government-verified method in Pakistan to earn a return and win cash prizes through a lottery-style draw. This scheme was launched in 1960 by the State Bank of Pakistan under the name “National Prize Bonds.” The scheme operates under specific regulations, and its administration is managed by the State Bank Banking Services Corporation an entity under the State Bank of Pakistan. Authorized commercial banks and National Savings Centers are also integrated into this system.
The department awards cash prizes to the winners of the draws. Specifically, first, second, and third-tier prizes are allocated, and the corresponding cash amounts are distributed to the winners based on their winning bond numbers.
Prize Bond Denominations and Draw Schedule
Prize bonds are issued exclusively under the National Savings , and all buying and selling are conducted through this system. Transactions involving prize bonds and funds are handled directly by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS). No third party is involved in this process. The government introduced this system to provide the public with a secure investment avenue and the opportunity to win various cash prizes by purchasing these bonds.m
Currently, prize bonds in Pakistan are available in various denominations, starting from PKR 100. Each denomination has its own specific prize amounts and number of winners, categorized into first, second, and third-prize tiers. In other words, there are three prize categories. For the PKR 100 prize bond, the lucky draw takes place once every three months; this means you have the opportunity to win a prize four times a year.
Prize Claim Rules and Premium Bond Benefits
If a person’s name appears on the prize bond list, they are granted a period of six months to claim the amount won in the draw from the relevant institution.
After these six months, the winner is no longer entitled to the prize. An application or claim can be submitted at any branch of the State Bank of Pakistan; you will be required to provide your identity card along with the claim form. The draws for the prize bonds are conducted annually by the institution using manually operated draw machines (HODMs).
With the growing popularity of prize bonds in Pakistan, the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) has introduced the registration of “Premium Prize Bonds.” These are bonds registered in the name of the investor, distinguishing them from standard national prize bonds.
In addition to a fixed six-monthly profit, these bonds offer the opportunity to win prizes throughout the entire period they are held. Currently, this category applies to prize bonds with a face value of 40,000 rupees.
Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan provides a facility for the direct transfer of funds to the public via SMS or bank accounts. Detailed information regarding the 100-rupee prize bond is provided here, including the specific prize amounts for the first, second, and third tiers. The date for the prize bond draw has been set for November 16.
