The Federal Cabinet of the Government of Pakistan has approved the designs for new Pakistani currency notes, including a 5,000-rupee denomination. Additionally, the Cabinet has decided to discontinue the issuance of the 10-rupee banknote.
This note will be replaced by a coin, and the 10-rupee banknote will be completely phased out. This decision paves the way for the introduction of newly designed currency notes in the country; however, the existing notes will not be withdrawn immediately.

New Currency Notes Set for Circulation
Comprehensive details regarding the withdrawal process will be shared to ensure that individuals holding the old notes do not suffer any financial loss, allowing them to exchange their old currency for the new notes. Following this approval, work has already commenced, and the public will soon see the newly designed notes in circulation.
The State Bank approved the designs for new currency notes on February 5, 2026. Following this, work on the designs commenced, and the new notes are now ready to enter the market; the public will soon be able to see them.

Old Currency Exchange Policy to Follow
It is reported that the designs of these notes will be completely different from the previous ones. It should be noted that existing currency notes will not need to be returned immediately; a specific schedule for this process will be issued. Furthermore, it is expected that a new policy regarding the exchange of currency notes will also be introduced.
The State Bank of Pakistan has not yet released any designs into the market. This information has been shared to raise public awareness that new banknotes are ready for introduction; individuals holding old banknotes will receive the new ones in exchange once they surrender the old currency.
