Internship At University Rabia Naseem Farooqui, Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training, informed the National Assembly on Monday that internships are to be made mandatory in universities across Pakistan to provide students with practical experience and better employment opportunities.

This requirement has now been established nationwide; all students graduating from any university in Pakistan will be provided with an internship by their respective institution. These internships may be paid or unpaid, offering students new opportunities and the chance to gain practical experience.

Responding to questions, he stated that there are 282 universities in Pakistan, comprising both public and private institutions, and that the mandatory internship requirement was introduced in 2023. He further added:

That three academic credit hours have been allocated for internships to provide practical experience to students pursuing their degrees. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is ensuring the implementation of this requirement across all universities. He further noted that this internship will provide students with both practical experience and employment opportunities, and that its implementation will commence soon.

Youth Centers for Graduate Jobs

Rabia Naseem Farooqui also informed the House that on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government has also established Youth Development Centers in the universities to help graduates prepare for employment.

These centers provide educational and career guidance and also provide digital employment opportunities. Students can also get help from it to know about job opportunities and the requirements of the subjects. These centers enable communication between students and industry representatives. She added that the aim of this exam is to strengthen the demand-side dialogue between universities and the job market so that the youth can access employment opportunities after completing their education.
